Talking Dolls Anyone?

so how many of you had/have talking dolls? I don't mean the kind that if you squeeze it it talks. I mean the kind that you put tapes in and listen to stories and go on pretend adventures. I was never into regular dolls but loved these. I have Cricket (for girls), Corky (for boys), Teddy Ruxpin, Mother Goose and a talking clock of the same kind called Grandpa Time, complete with all their tapes. No no, I have no intentions of selling them. *smile* I've also got a tape of the Cabbage Patch Kids. I'm including these links for parents or those like me who still have a little kid in us.

For those who love teddy, he's still being made!

But the old tapes for him don't work on these new machines, which really sucks. I didn't know there was a Grubby doll! Must find!
Corky and Cricket aren't sold anymore but you can find them and their tapes on ebay. Here's the page on both of them.

A quick search didn't show any facts on Mother Goose but I did find her on sale in a few places. I couldn't find much on Grandpa time other than a few blog/forum posts but I'm sure he's out there somewhere. It looks like a whole new generation of The Cabbage Patch Kids are being sold. Here's their page, which also includes history and collector's items, probably the tapes too.

So what were your favourites and do you still have them?

If you type in "teddy Ruxpin" "Cricket Doll" and "Corky doll" on youtube, you'll get videos and stories from the original dolls that you can hear/see and enjoy.

i liked 2xl better, but I did have a snoopy stuffed animal that was a tape player with a snoopy tape.

2xl? I've never heard of that one. I'm imagining it was a robot toy?

I had cricket, Mother Goose, and teddy. Because my aunt and I were only two years apart, we grew up together. The dolls were purchased for us to share. I'm not sure where they are at. I can ask my grandparents if they still have them. I used to listen to them when I was going to sleep.

I still have the Mother goose nursery rhymes tapes. I play them in a regular tape player from time to time just to listen to them. That is the only tapes I still have from the dolls.

i still sleep with baby dolls. My favorites as of now are the inflatable ones. The have the plastic heads, arms, and legs, but their torso's are air sacks that you can blow up via a plug in the back. The air sacks are protected by cotton cloth. I feel naked without those dolls. i absolutely love them. And, I do have some dolls that talk, cry, eat, wet, and all that other stuff. i'm looking to get myself the Dream Baby, which is an awesome doll that goes through four stages of human development. Yeah, I'm twenty-four and still play with dolls.

I will always be a child at heart. I don't care what anyone says. Some have tried to make fun of me, but I just laugh. If people judge, they are the ones with the problem. At least I'm confident in myself and can love who I am. That's precisely it.

Thanks so much for sharing those links. I've got to really check them out. It is a shame they do not make Cricket anymore because she was fabulous! If I can find the one we had when we were little, I'd still listen to her today.

I was never really into those either but I do have this Vermont Teddy bear that my brother gave to me several years ago so it's dear to my heart.

I have a talking Hermione Granger doll. She comes with beeds that you connect and she says spells and other stuff. I heard the Love And Grow Suzie doll is better than My Dream Baby.

As far as the tape-playing ones, I had one a while back called "Dozy," that came with his own tape where on one side he would talk to you, and of course end up falling asleep at different periods, then on the other side would tell you 2 different bedtime stories.
His eyes and mouth would light up whenever the tapes played, and he was programmed to shut off every I think 30 seconds to a minutte, and if you wanted him to reactivate you had to squeze his hand. I had several others that talked like "Baby Secrets," Chatty Patty," and another one I'm not sure of the name of, but she said a variety of stuff, and when she talked her eyes and mouth moved, and she came with a bottle you could put in her mouth that she would suck on.

Ooh, dozy sounds neat. I'll have to keep an eye out for him. All of this is cool cause some of them would probably be good for my nephew Alex who's a bit less than a year old and of course, I like to collect these so.

ah, i loved these dolls but never actually owned one sadly.
I remember my cousin had a teddy Ruxpin, and I use to be fascinated listening to his adventures with grubby. I was told back then that one could also get a Grubby doll, but my cousin didn't have that.
And one of my old friends had a Cricket doll; she sounded cute.
I love the sound of those others Tiff mentioned.

ah yes, and that same cousin had a Mother goose as well; I forgot about that for a minute.
I'm also a kid at heart. I'm 30, and I heard a review of the dream baby on blindcooltech; I want one! :)

lollol, this is embarrassing but cool. I had the Cricket doll as well. For those who didn't though, I can describe her. She was dressed in like a school skirt and woolly knitted jumper, tights and these mini plastic lace up trainers, her hair was in ringlets and she had a cassette player in her back behind this big velcro flap. Cricket's eyes and mouth also blinked, opened and closed with the words as she did her various talking and singing things, lol.

I also had this other talking, laughing, crying and singing doll, about the same size as a newborn baby, but you put these little disks
in this machine in her back, rather like a diskman, but you opened it up and put the disks in the flap as oppose to the machine itself. I had loads of these little disks for this doll. The one she came fitted with by default was her laughing and crying/screaming tantrum disk, lol. The rest of the disks were nursery rhymes, songs, poems and things she used to sing. I remember one of the songs was Thumbelina, lol.
Jen.

Ooh, this is really cool. I've never heard of her. It's really weird, cause I'm not a doll person otherwise, but I love stories and such. To be honest, these were like my friends, since I never had any. No one wanted to play with me, even though I wanted to play with them. It's kind of sad and funny now, but Mom put them all together once so I could have a birthday party.

I had a teddy Ruxpin, and it's probably in our attic somewhere, but I have no idea what happened to the tape. I also had a Mother Goose which broke sadly.

Ooh, a Teddy that connects to a video? Awesome! I forgot all about this topic till now so should really try to check out some of the other dolls mentioned. I wonder if Ebay has any or any more tapes for the ones I already have? I also had this special tape player. I'm guessing now that it was a four track. Each track had a different button and it came with various choose your own adventures and a compartment for the little spiral-bound books and tapes. I remember one was the Chipmunks, another was Cessemy Street and a third was a comedy tape of some kind. We got it at a garage sale when I was slightly older and I'd love to find it and more tapes for it.
